Deep in the heart of one of the most breathtakingly beautiful canyons in the world, nestled along side lofty pines & spectacular cliffs, you will find Spearfish Canyon Lodge.
Built & decorated in the style of the great old lodges of the USA, you can let nature take over here and open your mind to focus on either business or pleasure.
The outside world is as near or far as you need it to be.
The main lodge with heavy log walls & nature's artifacts has 54 great rooms & suites & is open throughout every beautiful canyon season, Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall.
All rooms have either King or Queen pillow top beds topped with light warm duvets & the views from every window are of the very best & most beautiful of nature.
Slip into the warm, soft robe that you will find on your bed & maybe if you are really quiet you may catch sight of a majestic mountain lion, a heard of deer or the mass of cheeky chipmunks that scurry around outside.

Arctic Cats & Polaris Indy snowmobiles plus all the equipment needed for great adventures. Located at the trail head for Black Hills trail #4, you will be located right in the midst of one of the nation's premier snowmobile areas with 350 miles of groomed trails. At the end of an exhilarating day on the trail, you can enjoy hot cider in front of the crackling log fire or relax in the upper deck hot tub.

Bird watching in Spearfish Canyon is amazing. Bald Eagles are observed daily on the cliffs above the Latchstring.

“One of the most popular birding routes in the region is the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway which runs south from Spearfish 20 miles to Cheyenne Crossing. This superb drive is very popular with non-birders too. Some of the species to look for as you start up the canyon include Ruffed Grouse, White-throated Swift, Lewis’s Woodpecker, Red-naped Sapsucker, Western Wood-Pewee, Dusky & Cordilleran Flycatchers, Pinyon Jay, Violet-green Swallow, Canyon Wren, Mountain Bluebird, Veery, MacGillivray’s Warbler, Western Tanager, Black-headed Grosbeak, Lazuli Bunting, & Cassini’s Finch. American Dipper can be seen along Spearfish Creek, but it’s most likely found at Roughlock Falls.”

You can collect your bike & trail maps right at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Great backpack refreshments are made to order at the Latchstring. There are trails to suit short, exhilarating rides or half & full day tours.
Imagine calling in a massive turkey & when he is perfectly positioned & closer than you ever thought possible, you can shoot off a reel of award winning photographs. With bison, deer, pronghorns, mountain goats, prairie dogs & the possibility of the ever-elusive mountain lion, this is the American Safari.
Spearfish Canyon has been the muse for many film makers, artists, photographers & writers. Used in the final scenes of “Dances with Wolves” & also as the inspiration for many works of art, the Canyon & Spearfish Canyon Lodge bring your art to new heights with majestic beauty & abundant wildlife.
With miles upon miles of trails setting off right from the very door of Spearfish Canyon Lodge, you can hike for a few hours or a full day. The Latchstring will prepare great backpack picnics for half or full day hikes.
Ride the Hills or Hire a Harley. What better way to experience the Black Hills than by a motor bike tour based at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. There are many exciting day & half-day loops that take in the wonders of the Black Hills. You can bring your own bike or hire one locally. Popular loops include Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Mount Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Iron Mountain, Deadwood & Sturgis.
Two great golf courses are within a short drive of Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Play a round of golf at either Spearfish or Lead or spend an extra day & play both courses.
