The faces depicted on Mount Rushmore are Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. The four Presidents were chosen by sculpture Gutzon Borglum as representatives of the first 150 years of America’s history.
Actual carving work of the monument began on the majestic granite peak in October of 1927 and ended in October of 1941. Stop by the Museum to watch the orientation video, see interactive exhibits and browse the Mount Rushmore History Association Bookstore.
The 5725’ granite peak is located about an hour and a half south of Spearfish Canyon Lodge.
